At the end of August 2008, a Canberra based consortium will be submitting a bid to the A-League to enter a team for Canberra and the surrounding region. They need the support of the local community across the region to help win the bid.
The ACT alone has almost 50,000 people - boys and girls, men and women - directly involved in football. Cooma, Goulburn, Wagga, Batemans Bay and other towns all have passionate football communities. A local team provides our younger players with a pathway for pursuing their football dreams. It also gives fans of all ages a team to get behind which represents their community/region as well as the opportunity to attend live national and international matches.
The bid organisers are busy finding sponsors and investors to present to the A-League board. There are positive and significant developments almost daily. However, for the bid to be successful we need to prove that we have the support for the team. The best way to do this is by signing up for Foundation Membership for the future club. Become a part of history and sign-up today.
Foundation Membership costs $200 and comes with a few perks including free entry to any W-League home games and reduced ticket prices. It will put you down as a part of history, but more importantly it can get you a team. And that’s really the point. Should the bid fail, Ivan says it won’t, money is held in a trust and Foundation Members get the $200 back.
If you haven’t already signed up for Foundation Membership, you should!
Do it now!
You can spread the word by email, on your website, at your matches and in your workplace. We’ve provided some materials to help you, so it really should be quite easy.
